Graduation Requirements

Degree Progress

In order to monitor your progress toward your degree, it is important that you review your degree audit/advising worksheet with your adviser each semester.  The degree audit confirms when degree requirements are met and will display all unmet requirements, including credit totals and minimum GPAs required for graduation.  You can find your degree audit in your my.Laroche account under Academics > My Grades > Degree Progress.

Degrees/Double Majors

Students who double major will receive only one degree. Students with a double major in both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science program may elect to receive either the B.A. or the B.S. degree. The Registrar will need to know your preference at the time of graduation application.

Degree Requirements

To qualify for a Bachelor degree from La Roche, a student must:

  1. Complete the core curriculum (see Core Curriculum).
  2. Successfully earn a minimum of 120 unique credits and fulfill the residency requirement (must complete the last 30 credits at La Roche).

  4. Achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.000 or "C" and a 2.000 minimum GPA all courses required to complete the major except those majors where more than a 2.000 is required. In those instances, students must achieve the major GPA as stated in the University catalog.

To qualify for a Graduate degree from La Roche, a student must:

  1. Complete the program of study, meeting all course requirements
  2. Achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.000 or "B" or higher.

Graduation Application

Students who plan to graduate in December, May, or August must formally apply for graduation by the deadline published in the academic calendar. Students will need to complete an on-line graduation application, and meet with their advisor to confirm completion of graduation requirements. Graduation fee is due at time of completion of the application, and can be paid on-line, in the Registrar's Office or Student Accounts Office. Students will not be certified for graduation without filing an online graduation application.

Diplomas

Your name on your diploma will appear exactly as it does on your graduation application. Diplomas are not distributed at commencement; they will be mailed to the address listed on your graduation application, approximately four to six weeks following the completion of the semester.

Any student with a financial hold will have their diploma held in the Registrar’s Office until all financial obligations are met.

Only the degree, and not the minor, major or concentration, appears on the diploma.

Latin Honors

In order to recognize and encourage excellence in academic achievement, the University acknowledges at commencement those individuals who attain superior performance. Latin honors are awarded to baccalaureate degree candidates who meet cumulative grade point average requirements and a minimum of 45 credits in residence at La Roche. The required GPAs follow:

  • GPA of 3.900 - 4.000 Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors)
  • GPA of 3.750 - 3.899 Magna Cum Laude (with high honors)
  • GPA of 3.500 - 3.749 Cum Laude (with honors)

Latin Honors appear on the diploma and final transcript.

Final Transcripts

Students receive a copy of their final transcripts mailed to them following completion of degree. The final transcript will include the degree and conferral date, along with the major, minor, concentration and any certificate earned.

Students who have not yet received their final transcripts, but need a copy for employment purposes, certification application or admission to graduate school, should indicate “hold until the degree is posted.” Students can order transcripts and track the status of their order online.
