PCHE Cross-Registration and Other Consortium Courses

Cross Registration through the Pittsburgh Council on Higher Education (PCHE)

Cross-registration is available in the Fall and Spring semesters only to full-time students enrolled in one of the Pittsburgh Council on Higher Education (PCHE) institutions. La Roche students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits at La Roche to be eligible. Students may cross-register for only one course per fall or spring semester at only one of schools. The grade earned for a cross-registered course is calculated in the student's La Roche GPA.

Cross-registration forms are available online and must be processed by the deadlines established by each school. The completed form must be submitted to the La Roche University (home institution) Registrar, with the approval of the students' advisor. The student should NOT attempt to register directly at the host instituion for PCHE cross-registration. All forms must contain the correct course number and title of the PCHE course, using the host institution's course code system.

The cross-registered course will be included in La Roche full-time tuition. However, students are responsible for paying for special course or laboratory fees to the host institution. For further information concerning cross-registration, contact the Registrar's Office.

Members of PCHE, in addition to La Roche, are: Carlow, Carnegie Mellon, Chatham, Community College of Allegheny County, Duquesne, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Point Park, Robert Morris, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Acadeum Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Online Course Sharing Consortium

La Roche University is a member of the Acadeum CIC Online Course Sharing Consortium, which facilitates course-sharing among similar institutions. The Acadeum CIC online consortium is intended to provide students an opportunity to complete a course online through another CIC-participating institution if the course is not being offered at La Roche and is needed to progress for graduation.

Acadeum consortia courses appear on the La Roche transcript and will be billed as though they were institutional courses, will be covered by La Roche financial aid (if applicable), and count towards a student’s full-time status. A consortia course will count as a La Roche course. While consortia courses are offered by a different college or university, they are deemed as fully equivalent to a specified La Roche course. As such, the course will appear on the student’s La Roche transcript as a La Roche course (though these courses will be designated “Acadeum” in order to indicate that the course was not actually taken at La Roche). All courses will post the final letter grade on the La Roche transcript, not as transfer credits, and will calculate into the student’s semester and cumulative GPA. If this is a repeat of an approved equivalent course, the higher grade earned will be used in the GPA calculation. Please note that all grades for completed consortia courses, including grades of F, will count towards a student’s La Roche GPA. The course credits and grade will be used in the financial aid satisfactory academic progress calculation. Because a consortia course will count as a La Roche course, these credits are applicable towards La Roche residency requirements. Undergraduate students are limited to one Acadeum consortia course per fall and spring term (lecture and lab co-requisites considered one course), and up to 9 credits in summers, with a limit of 18 credits total towards a La Roche bachelor’s degree. Graduate students are limited to 3 credits towards a master’s degree, and only if accepted by the individual graduate program.

Students are responsible for all learning material costs, including textbooks, as determined by the teaching institution.

Departments and programs will review and pre-approve course equivalencies for specific classes. Academic Core equivalencies must also be approved by the Academic Core Committee Chair. Graduate coursework may be approved at the discretion of the academic program; some graduate programs will not accept Acadeum consortia coursework. However, all Acadeum enrollments are subject to final approval by the La Roche Office of the Registrar.

The add/drop and withdrawal dates for Acadeum courses are set by the teaching institution. Students should review the specific course’s academic calendar and syllabus closely for specific course dates and deadlines. Courses that do not fall exactly within the La Roche semester schedule will be added to the term in which the majority of the course falls, up through the latest add/drop subterm date. Students anticipating graduation must have the course completed and graded within three weeks after the LRU expected graduation date.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be degree-seeking at La Roche University.
  • Students must be in good academic standing to be eligible to participate in the Acadeum Consortium. Students must have an established La Roche GPA or transfer post-secondary institution GPA to verify standing; first-semester freshmen are not eligible.
  • All efforts must be made to complete the course at La Roche. An equivalent La Roche course should not be offered at La Roche in the same semester; if one is, students are expected to enroll in the La Roche course. If the needed course will be available at La Roche within the student’s graduation timeline, the student should complete the course at La Roche.
  • If an equivalent La Roche course is offered, sufficient justification must be made as to why the Acadeum course is necessary. Any warranted exceptions and approvals will be reviewed and granted by Academic Affairs.
